Our Staff Said
Hoop Dreams Overnight Basketball Camp is not just a camp but a community, made up of selfless, supportive and energetic people. It is a place built on trust and positivity with a big dose of FUN!
Hoop Dreams has been my home away from home for the last 7 years and every year it has helped me grow as a person and a leader. I am an OCT certified teacher and I am in the position I am today because of all the people that are associated with Hoop Dreams. We learn and grow so much throughout the summers together and seeing each other succeed is a common interest.
The coaches that are assigned to work up at the camp are experienced basketball players as well as trained coaches. We preach and practice a safe and positive environment so we can give the athletes the best chance to have fun and develop as players. Elite Basketball Camps training can speak for itself. We are the most successful basketball camp in the country and now we offer 9 weeks of it at an basketball overnight camp.
I am so proud to be one of the founding coaches and to have built an identity for this camp. It is so satisfying seeing the coaches and players grow as people and athletes. We don’t just develop athletes; we develop leaders, both on and off the court, for all ages.
Working at Hoop Dreams is always the highlight of my summer because of the incredible connections I get to build with all the staff and campers. Even being there for multiple weeks in a row, every session is such a new experience with its own highlights. All of my experiences at Hoop Dreams have helped me to grow as both a coach and an individual, helping my leadership, public speaking, and organizational skills, which have played a key role in every other aspect of my life. Hoop Dreams is so much fun because we all get to work on our own individuals goals on and off the court, in the best possible environment. Spending all day outside, rain or shine, gives us time to do so many fun activities and just get to know everyone on an even higher level than just basketball.
I started at Hoop Dreams in its second year of operation. I can say wholeheartedly that it is the single, most fun overnight experience I have ever had. The combination of coaching basketball in the beautiful, sunny outdoors, and running around participating in traditional camp activities like sailing, canoeing, swimming, campfires, and rock climbing, is incredible. Also the connections you make with other coaches and campers are ones that last a lifetime! I haven’t missed a Hoop Dreams session in 6 years, and I don’t intend to!
I have been a part of Hoop Dreams for the past 4 years, and I could not see my Summer go by without it! My experience at Hoop Dreams has been nothing short of amazing, and has given me the opportunity to try things I would not have been able to otherwise. From water-skiing, to archery, rock climbing, sailing, and slip-n-slide – I was able to relive my childhood during these past 4 years at Hoop Dreams. At times, you tend to forget that you are actually “working”. In addition, I was also able to develop my teaching and leadership skills, which have transferred over and helped guide me in my career as an educator. I was able to build meaningful relationships with staff, and leave a positive lasting impact on campers. Returning year after year and seeing all the familiar faces, is a true testament to the impact Hoop Dreams has on everyone that is a part of it. It has truly made a difference in my life and I am looking forward to it for many years to come!
I have had the privilege of working at Elite Camps for 13 years. Elite has played an integral part in my growth and development as a leader. I began as a young, highly energetic counsellor ready to make a difference in children’s lives through sports. Working at Elite has helped develop my leadership and communication skills which have positively contributed to my successful career as an educator. It was through my experiences with Elite camps that I realized I wanted to work full-time with children and help them become lifelong learners. Elite Camps maintains a culture and feeling of family within its team of leaders and models a positive and encouraging work environment. One that is highly motivating to work in and sets an example for others. I couldn’t be happier to be a part of this amazing journey with Hoop Dreams and cannot wait for our opening summer in 2019!
When I first joined the Elite Camps family 7 years ago, it was meant as just a summer job and the opportunity to be around the game of basketball. I found myself quickly captivated by the culture and family atmosphere that’s created at Elite. I’ve met incredible staff and have built connections with some of the best and most genuine mentors. With the guidance and learning opportunities as a staff members of Elite I’ve learned how to game plan, set goals and reach them. Since starting at Elite I’ve completed my bachelor of education, coached four consecutive seasons as an assistant on a college team, receiving four provincial champions and two national championships, and have recently started my master’s in education. I owe a lot of my leadership development to Elite Basketball Camps and can’t wait to send my own kids one day!
